go to c:/program files/activision/call of duty 4 - modern warfare

in this folder, you'll see two files named: iw3mp and iw3sp

iw3mp is multiplayer, the other is singleplayer.

Whichever one you want as a shortcut (or both) you have a few choices...

A)

drag the file from where it is and drop it on your desk top

B)

right click on the file and choose "copy to folder"

choose "desk top" from the options

C)

right click on the file and choose "send to"

click desktop

make sure the path and file name are correct

Joy I also noticed that your ping in the server is high...180 - 200 when I was looking and Rays was only 85 - 90.

Well i finally figured it out , this is what my shortcut should look like

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\iw3mp.exe" +connect 64.34.184.17:28940 +password tob +set net_port 28960

And that did work

The (x86) , has to be there ( different drive )

The +set net_port 28960 , so we can both play at the same time ( different ports )

Now to work on the high ping ( any ideas ) ??

You are running a 64 bit version of Vista, thus the (x86)

Not sure about the ping, maybe ethernet drivers, or posibly the router connection.

wow Joy made the leap to the 64 bit world :)

if you need anything Joy
Mike and I both run 64 .. not sure if he runs vista or not
PS
your best freind for Vista (any version) is this

right click on your app file
look for compatability
anything that was developed before 2007
click on RUn this program in compatabiltiy mode for:
windows XP
and at the bottom
select run as administrator

i had the same problems just a month ago when i got my computer with vista in 2007. go to control panel-user accounts and family safety-user accounts- turn user account control on or off-un check the box then restart your computer. that'll solve a lot of short cut problems and a few minor problems. user account control is useless so just turn it off. hopefully It'll solve all your problems. maybe even your ping problem though im not great with computers so i dont know.
