If the play from yesterday counts for anything, I think the Bears will win this one. But if the Colts actually play their game it will be a close one. But since my entire family is cheering for the Colts I will have to go with them. But I am still holding out for that one in a million chance that the Redskins will find some miracle to get into that game. Heh never say never. Well ok maybe one time in the next 10 years they may get a chance.

Hey Guys,

For those non-US types.........how about listing the teams and thier cities of origin etc. so we can pick one to follow.

Might pay to tell me whether they play baseball or gridiron though....

I don't care whether the one I pick has any form anyway so I will pick one by name .......once I support them they will win anyways.

Cheers

Chicago Illinois = Bears
Indianapolis Indiana = Colts

We ought to get a list of teams together for ya. But you would have to do that with the other football (soccer) teams, and add the cricket teams. Still trying to figure that game out, but it does look interesting to me. I am a big baseball fan.

Id like to try cricket but ive heard the games can last days.
We now have a local lacross team, trying to figure that out, looks like hockey, soccer and rugby rolled into one. may have to try that out...there can be only one!!!!

Yes if the Bears can keep the pressure on Manning and keep the pass action down with their 2ndary they will win. The Colts have a problem with stopping a solid running game Benson and Jones will be a large factor specally when Rex isnt the most consistant passer. However the Colts beat Baltamore (Ravens) with nothing but a few long passes and field goals....I was at a loss on that one. (lost 20 bucks as well)

Ahh well the game should be good a traditional west coast offence (more passing than running) against a classic running team (more runing than passing). and the commercials should be good as well!!

GO BEARS!!!!

So perhaps setting up a sportsection on the chat off topic. Where you americans can explain American football to us Europeans. And where we can explain you the very nature of the soccer (the real football, played with the foots). As for cricket I don't even want to start understanding that looks way to complicated. I myself like cycling first one over the finish wins :icon_biggrin: . That is also the reason why I understand most kinds of racing. Lol

Cricket is a simple game;

Cricket tends to cause great confusion among those unfamiliar with the sport. It is, after all, a game where grown men appear in slips, where an all-rounder can play at square-leg and where bowlers try to frighten batsmen with their googlies. As a consequence, I have taken it upon myself to explain cricket to those who do not understand the subtleties of the sport.

Some players in each team can bat, some players can bowl and some players have the unique ability to stand in the outfield for 3 days without getting bored. It is the goal of the bowler to hit the wicket with the ball. Some bowlers add spin, some bowlers are fast and some bowlers take such a long run up to the crease that fans can arrive at the ground, drink to excess, riot and get thrown out without actually seeing any play. To add spin, a bowler often polishes the ball by rubbing the leather casing in his groin crease. Some bowlers spend so much time polishing the ball their team provides marriage counselling.

The batsmen try to defend the wicket by hitting the ball and scoring runs. Batsmen come in three groups. The opening batsmen can really hit the ball, the middle-order are the hit and miss batsmen and the nightwatchmen just hope it’s too dark for anyone notice. Batsmen wear so much protection including pads, cricket boxes (see below), gloves and helmets; it is not unusual for them to start padding up 3 days before they’re called to bat.

Sometimes the team that scores the most runs, innings or wickets wins. And sometimes they don’t. And sometimes it rains. Then it’s a draw.

Howzat?: A call by the fielding team to the umpire meaning ‘Are you bloody blind? He’s out.’

Field Positions: Fieldsmen can be placed at gully, point, cover, silly mid-on, forward short leg or deep fine leg or, for beginners, the position known as ‘Just stand there’.

An Over: Consists of 6 bowls. A bowler bowls an over until the over is over. Then he bowls another over.

A Bouncer: A high bouncing ball bowled in an innings or a bald, big guy who throws drunken cricket players out of nightclubs on outings.

A Cricket Box: Groin protector for batsmen available in 3 sizes: English, Australian and West Indian.

Confused yet ?????

Just don't ask a 'POM' Englishman to explain the game.....they don't know how to play.

Cheers

Brett

P.S I'll take the Bears !

A-ha! I understand it completely now, Brett, thanks so much!

I don't but I don't care that much.
Biggest problems how do you score points? how long takes an over? when do they switch teams? What is a wicket, how big is it, is it a kind of a goal?

Oh why does everything have to be so difficult :icon_confused:

Ol'digger

Alright Jens.......here goes....

They score runs not points.......by hitting the ball and running between the wickets. (Unless they hit a four = over the boundary along the ground or a six = over the boundary on the full in which case they don't have to run)

There are six balls in an over, which are bowled from alternating ends of the pitch. (Unless there is a wide called or a no-ball then these are bowled again)

They change sides after each innings.....when all the opposing team are out.
(or after 50 overs in limited over one day games)

The wicket is made up of three wooden stumps with two bails (small wooden things lol) resting on the top. They are about 3feet high and about 8 inches across.

confused even more now I guess.......

I guess I will have to watch a game on television one day and print this out as I am sitting and watching that game.

But thanks anyway.

I would usually disagree and have a big old argument with you Ol'digger about us poms being rubbish at cricket, but seeing as how the ashes seem to like the warm weather down under and we've just been annihilated by a bunch of Kiwi's, I'm not gonna start...

And in other news, in a show of anger towards rubbish english cricket, I'm taking a leaf out or Pieterson's book and joining the competition - a aussie indoor team for the winter.... May win something this way!

Ok now I get it. You wear a skirt, shine your balls, party for three days, get drunk (at night so no one notices) hope not to fall asleep and get thrown out before a kiwi wins? :(

Am I getting there?

Remember folks, especially in the Super Bowl, a great Defense almost always beats a great offense.
