Ello my mates and matets at ToB :]. Long time no chat eh? Well anyways heres the issue. When i start up my PC it goes to that routine screen where u can enter ur BIOS Etc. but after that it pops up a error that says some system fan has failed. Press F2 to continue.. Now im pretty sure i know what this means but... i cant find where the problem lies. Ive narrowed it down to the PSU and CPU fans. My CPU is not running hot as far as i know and my PSU has a broken sensor in it so im not sure what its running at, but its barely a few months old,6 at the most. Also i have my doubts on that PSU because this problem didnt arise when i was in my old case. I just recently switched cases and got a new 9800GT grafix card (thats not it because i hadnt put it in when this issue arose) Ive tested all my fans, except those two. I came here because i know we have some computer smart people around here. :] Any help would be appreciated

~Thanks

Since you are experianced in opening the case and digging around in there...

open the case with the system on, and look inside. DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING! (Not taking responsibility if you shock something.)
You should be able to see if you have a fan that is not working.
It may be the fan on your GPU that is not registering. I had that problem with a card once.

Also make sure you did not bump the connectors for the fans. If your northbridge chip has a fan, you may have bumped the connector for it when changing the card. Also some MOBO's have a fan connector neer the southbridge chip for the system fan, you may have bumped that putting the card in.

It is hard to guess without looking at the system....

im my expieriance it has always been the fan connecters nearest the cpu that has not been connected, not the one for the cpu but the one just for a extra fan, it ur fans use the molex to power just disable the message in the bios or connect a fan to that slot worked for me

Well i know its not the GPU because i just put it in yesterday and it was coming with this error message ever since i put it in the new case (christmas). Also all of my fans from my new case use the 4 pin molex connectors. i have tried unplugging each fan and see if it turns on that way. I thought it was the case fan below the PSU since it looked to be turing very slow but it was not. Unless i missed a fan, i am still thinking its the CPU fan or PSU fan sense that sensor is broken on it.

u have the 3pin fan connectors on the motherboard that you are not using, it will be this, have u got any fans that use the 3pin instead of molex, if so put on in on the spare on nearest the pcu nearest to the i/o shield ports , i am almost 100% sure it is this

You may have a single yellow wire, that is the speed sensor that tells the mobo that the fan is working. if that wire is disconnected, or loose in the socket, you will get the same result as the fan not being connected.

No i do not have any fans that connect straight to the Mobo that fit. :/
Well i was going to try a different fan that connect straight to the Mobo but it did not fit in the case :/ Curse hp for its non upgradableness.

CrazyPolock that would only be true if the fan is plugged in because then it just thinks that there isnt a fan there. but ive tested all my case fans (3 of them) and the GPU is not it so its either the CPU fan or PSU fan i would suppose.

Edit: Should i try unplugging my CPU fan turning on the PC just long enough to see if that error appears and then shut it off and replug it back in because my cpu fan is at 1698 RPM

right just hold on,

it running fine as it is, the message only comes up because there is no fan connected in the mobo, in the bios there may be a setting that disables it, i have tried and tested this with two of my pc builds and either sorted it by putting a fan with a 3pin connector in the mobo or disabled it thou the bios,

my advice is if u carnt disable it thou bios go and get urself a fan that fits ur case with the 3pin connector on it

p.s any dont take the cpu fan off, u dont wont to be goosed , (refer to topic with goose and thermal greese) sorry jack had to though that in m8!

Ah ok well i have a slight problem with the BIOS. They dont open :S i was going to try that because someone had advised me too before but i couldnt get to it. I think its F10 for me because on Intel load up screen it says in the bottom right

Esc = Boot menu F10 = setup F11 = restore

Setup is my BIOS i believe. i suppose that would make be the issue. If i remember correctly my old case had a fan that connected into the Mobo and it was a bugger to remove too. so i guess thats it. i still have the fan but it doesnt fit me case :/ Any suggestions to that dilemma?

just go buy a fan that fits ur case with the 3pin connector on it it will either be 80mm or 120mm most likey and there cheap aswell
