I've got something weird going on.

A couple of days ago the computer shut itself down and wouldn't restart until the SMC reset.
(i.e., unplug it for 15-30 minutes)
It's happened several times since.
I figured it was a hardware issue and I started troubleshooting it as such,
but I couldn't find anything wrong.

A few days before this, PunkBuster started kicking me every time I hit somebody.
I downloaded the latest copy of PB and a fresh PB updater and everything seemed fine.

It took me a while to put it together, but I noticed that it only happens when I'm playing CoD4.
I don't know if it's PB or one of the new maps, or just coincidence.
I'm working on that now.

If anybody else runs across this could you drop me a line?

Thanks.

Mark (Winchester)

Turns out the joystick was shorting out and shutting the power supply down.
It had nothing to do with the software.

...sorry

you must be bootstraped and running windows on the mac
How is that working for ya?
glad to see that you figured it out... That could not have been easy

It shut down again, so it's not the joystick.
I'd like to go back to thinking it was PunkBuster,
but there was a week between reloading the PB stuff and this fluke.

For now I'm back to thinking maybe it's a map.

Aspyr ported CoD4 for the Intel based Mac's last fall.
It's technically only supposed to run on 10.5 but it will work on 10.4
if you don't mind the startup screen being upside down and backwards.

it's not the maps,
I shut down playing "the valley" (?) a little while ago
and I've been playing that map since I started.

I'm running out of ideas.

Is it possible that you have/are overheating the Vid card? or the power supply?
Try taking the side of the computer off and blowing everything out with a can of compressed air (I do mine about once a month).
Also try playing with the side off to see if the problem goes away, could be a case of too much heat build up in the case. If that does solve the problem, good probably some component may have been weakened by the heat and could be on its way out.

Just tossing out some ideas, they work with a PC, should hold true with a Mac
