The kids loved it, i am sure you have better museums in the U.S. but it's good for a free day out.

There was a plane called a Vulcan, it was too big to take a decent foto of it but it could hold 50 bombs!!!!!

Ah Ren mate you've touched on a soft spot for me... As a huge aviation enthusiast I used to make my dad take me to Hendon every school holiday and every half term for years... He never even had to ask what I wanted to do :-) :pilot:

I love the place and it has got better and better over the years, although I last went there a few years back now...

My especial fav is the WWII hall where they have a number of Spits and my all time fav, a De Havilland Mosquito.... But of course I do love the main hangar mainly for the Lancaster and Vulcan.... Ah, def have to go there a again now....

Also to note is the upstairs area where they have a number of plaques telling stories of those pilots who received DFC's and other medals, often posthumously, for deeds so heroic that if you saw them in a film you wouldn't believe... Always brings a tear to the eye...

Anyway thanks for the photos mate. Have you been to the Imperial War Museum, that always has some good exhibitions on...??

Yeah the ww2 hangar is cool with the light effects and the night time feeling.

Actually I haven't mate, but I will have a look on Play.com and try to pick it up.... I remember when it came out I wanted to see it, but alas we don't get to the cinema often enough (but might have to make an exception for Wolverine...) :5bomb:

Flyboys has lots of ww1 fighter planes and dogfights....makes me want to fly one of those.

Mind you they didn't have any parachutes in those days......not good!

Good point, and lets face it, any plane that you need to throw the bombs out by hand won't be high on my list :)

I'd take my Mosquito or Thor's Defiant any day (as long as the Defiant was modified with forward firing guns at least ;-)

Thanks for the nice pics.

Sounds like we have something in common Viperidae.....

When I was a lot younger whenever my parents had to travel to Canberra, they would just drop me at the Australian War Museum, I would wander around there all day and they would pick me up in the afternoon.....then the next day I would want to go back again to see all the exhibits I had missed the day before.
They had a full size Lancaster, 'G' for George, which flew in the Dam Buster raids and my uncle was the navigator.......

Thanks again for the pics.

Wow how cool... G for George was Guy Gibson's aircraft so they were first at the dams and then flew covering fire for the other Lancs on their runs (bravery beyond the call).... Did your uncle make it through the rest of the war ok? Did you manage to speak to him about his experiences?

The Lancaster at Hendon is beautiful, but the problem is, you can't get a decent photo of it, it's too fricking big :)

Good Call Colin, I went there abt 8 - 10 years back with my parents and it was good then, I imagine it has got better...!!

My favourite is a small museum for De Havilland Aircraft:

http://www.dehavillandmuseum.co.uk

It features many Mosquitos among other aircraft, including the original prototype W4050...!!! They also do a lot of restoration work and I was in the process of signing up for volunteer work when my mrs moved jobs and we moved out of the area :-(
