for those of you interested in digital art or picture editing and stuff... here's something to consider...

Photoshop: $600 result?

GIMP: free result?

GIMP is great for beginners.

It pretty much does everything PS does. A lot of PS stuff (brushes, plug-ins, etc... from deviantArt) can be added to GIMP as well. Plus, If you DO decide to upgrade to PS, if your looking for something a BIT more professional, GIMP is a great stepping stone to PS. It helps A LOT with the whole learning curve.

Mix is entirely correct. I've been using Photoshop since the early 1990's and GIMP is an amazing program, especially for free! There are some big differences in how Photoshop handles RAW batch processeing and some stacking and blending options that you have to a pretty serious photographer to use or appreciate (the batch processing is a savior if you do a $1,200 wedding shoot and have about 500 shots to process and rate).

Give GIMP a go, it is easy, fun, and gives outstanding results.

Hey Mike, are you running GIMP on Vista or XP? just curious.

Vista

suprisingly, it is one of the programs that I have that seems to run (for the most part) very smooth.
