alright some of you out there seem to have Vista up and running. So I have to know the general consensus, is it any good? Should I get it up and running or wait for the upgrades to come out? Does CoD work any better or does it slow it down? just curious.

Unlike previous MS releases, Vista had extensive beta and Pre-release testing.

Microsoft says that they are no longer going to release SP or Service Pack Updates for their OSes, instead they will address bugs and enhancements as updates using the MS Update feature currently used to deploy hotfixes and updates. So don't wait for Vista SP1 there won't be one.

As to upgrading, Well....... I wouldn't upgrade unless I had a pretty powerful machine, Vista is demanding. I have a dual core athlon 64 3800+, 3 gig of ram, SATA2 Raid, and an ATI X1600 PCIe with 512meg ddr2 ram, and Creative X-Fi Platnum sound.

I will say on my platform, Vista loads faster, shuts down faster and is more stable than XP. COD2 loads quicker and I get maybe 10% beter framerates in Vista than XP.

Vista has many new features that make it a very attractive upgrade.

I was a Vista beta tester and I couldn't wait for the final release, I only use XP for legacy programs that aren't supported in Vista.

Thanks, I am looking at getting me a new laptop and was wondering if I could run CoD2 on it and how it would work with all my other software.

If you are going to get a new laptop then it will come with vista pre-installed.

Most software will work and the few that don't can be run in compatiblity mode.

One caution, make SURE the laptop has either an nVIDIA or ATI graphics controller and try to get as much dedicated video memory as possible.

INTEL Graphics chipset IS NOT compatible and will not run COD2!!!

My laptop has an nVIDIA geforce 6150 with 128 dedicated and 256 shared memory for a total of 384meg and it scores low 2.3 on the Vista Experience Index for 3d gaming graphics, while my tower at home with an ATI Radeon X1600 PCIe 512meg ddr2 ram scores 4.6.

So my advice is get the fastest dual-core amd processor, 2-gig of ddr2 ram, and the best nVIDIA or ATI gpu you can afford or want to spend. Get Vista Home Premium not Vista Basic.
