I fitted a new hard drive a few weeks ago and reinstalled all my programs but this problem is still there. Sometimes it takes 3 or 4 attempts to download a new map.Anyone got any ideas?

Firewall Settings? try disabling your fire wall before down loading to see if that is where your problem is.

What do you mean by 3 or 4 attempts?

Does it just stop....does CoD2 end, or does CoD2 just crash?

Are you getting any error messages?

Have you defragged?

I do remember that my downloads would halt when the system did a map change while I was downloading...but I don't know if that happens anymore. I think that was only happening when I wasn't experiencing fast downloads (I was one of those with the slower downloads for some reason, but it is fast now).

What .iwd file number is it trying to download?

Is it always having trouble on the same one?

How much free disk space do you have?

Does it abort with your virus scan off (or possibly firewall off)?

Have you removed spyware with adaware/spybot/windows defender (free)?

Is your virus protection up to date? Have you scanned recently? Have you used the AOL/Kasperisky (sp) online virus scan? That is an excellent virus engine.

Are you using Norton or McAfee (if so, look to using some others - there are many that are free and much better).

What version of Windows are you running? Are you patched up?

OK here goes

Running winXP, AGV free, no spyware and firewall turned off
Game runs and plays fine but crashes downloading new maps. Sometimes a map will load fine, other times it crashes and I have to reconnect and try again. It will download eventually but could take several attempts. It happens with any iwd file, got over 100 gig free space and just had fresh install of operating system a few weeks ago. Had this problem before system went down and new install has not cured the problem.
I cant remember the exact error message at the moment but I get the option to send the error to microsoft.

Try deleting all the files from your temp directory (C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp)

Also, make sure you've defragged (probably not an issue).

Try downloading maps with your anti-virus turned off.

Run Microsoft's Malicious Software Removal Tool (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=ad724ae0-e72d-4f54-9ab3-75b8eb148356&displaylang=en)

Do you have any issues downloading other files from the net?

What is actually generating the error? CoD2? IE (behind the scenes)?

Something else?

I think I found the problem, when I downloaded larger maps I minimized the game. This should not be a problem but for some reason it crashed the program. Leaving it on full screen seems to work OK
