Anyone else have a problem with this map? All the smoke really plays Heck with my graphics card.

I have that as well, it slows the frame rate right down so I cant hide behind all that smoke!

Are you running that map in DX9 or DX7?

If not DX7, I would suggest trying it.

Try DX7 as suggested. That should take of the proble. That's all I use in COD2.

Changed from DX9 to 7. Still murders my frame rate. Guess it's time for a new card.:5eek:

What video card do you have?

Do you have an AGP or PCI-e system?

What resolution do you game at?

What size monitor?

Is it a CRT or a Flat Panel?

Oh...what's your CPU speed, and what kind, and how much RAM do you have?

you can try to set your grafics a bit lower. in options set the screen to 800x600 and turn som things off like shadows an textures, or try optimal settings. that helps alot.

What video card do you have? Nvidia 6200

Do you have an AGP or PCI-e system? agp

What resolution do you game at? Have tried them all

What size monitor? 21"

Is it a CRT or a Flat Panel? CRT

Oh...what's your CPU speed, and what kind, and how much RAM do you have?
2.8 Ghz Ram 1.5 Gig

Have tried everything. The only maps that give me slow frame rates are one with smoke and flames.

Thanks for answering the questions.

2.8 ghz....that should be plenty (doesn't matter if Intel or AMD).

Everything else looks okay, except the video card being a little light for higher-demanding graphics (as you're finding out).

You can reduce the resolution (or textures, shadows, smoke, etc) for particular maps.

Or you can either try to overclock the video card, or replace it.

There's some excellent choices to replace the video card in AGP, and potentially some new ones coming out.

The NVIDIA 7600/7800 series is good (the 7800 being much better, but much pricier), or the ATI x1950Pro AGP is a GREAT choice...I did that on one of my machines, and I couldn't be happier!. I think the X1950XT is also coming out in AGP, or it may already be available. I believe the new ATI graphics chips are also going to be available in AGP, but I don't know when. Those will (should) also be DX10 capable cards.

Unfortunately, they both cost money.

There is a program out that may let you overclock the 6200 a bit (I think it is called CoolBits....there should be plenty of info available on the net).

I don't think the 6200 runs hot, so you should have some overclocking room under the stock cooling solution.

If you chose to replace the card, (I think) you should go with more than 256 meg of RAM on the video card if you game above 1280 x 1024.

I would suggest it, but 256 meg may be 20-50 less than a 512 meg card.

Post back if you have any questions.

WOW...I actually got a chance to hop on the server for a couple of maps tonight!

A Bridge Too Far came up....so I tried some graphics tests on both of my machines:

3.0 ghz HT Pentium IV with an ATI X800XL PCI-e (all graphics settings maxed and 1280 x 960 resolution):
80-91 fps normally, 60-70 fps in smoke and fire (DX7)
40-60 fps normally, 24-40 fps in smoke and fire (DX9)

3.0 ghz HT Pentium IV with an ATI X1950Pro AGP (all graphics settings maxed and 1280 x 1024 resolution):
91 fps normally, 91 fps in smoke and fire (DX7)
85-91 fps normally, 45-91 fps in smoke and fire (DX9)

Both machines have 1 gig...the X800XL has DDR2, the X1950Pro has DDR. Neither video card is overclocked, and both video cards have 256 meg ram.

Also, the X1950Pro was an upgrade from a 9800XT...that was just a little slower than the X800XL in DX7, but a bit behind in DX9....I don't remember any maps that were unplayable in DX9, but I don't think I played any maps that demanding. I did play on DX7 usually (to stay over 60 fps).

ps..David......I didn't realize it at the time, but I logged in as Str1ke_Zone (my son) to a private slot....I changed my name to Yourself....just letting you know in case you see it in the logs.

What program are you running to get the fps

Yourself

In-game of CoD2.

Bring up the console (using the ~ key), and type:

/cg_drawfps 1

0 turns it off
1 turns it on
2 turns it on in some mode (I don't know what it is, though)

You get back out of the console by typing the ~ key again.

I've bought my XFX 7900GTX on e-bay. It was new and i paid about $400 for it. For me it was a shock what that card can do, and my last one was NVIDEA 6600. Now I'm playing on highest resolution with all options on. It doesn't make me a better sniper but now i can see much better faces of the people who is killing me. Yes it gets laggy on r&g but i don't play that much. This card cost now on e-bay about $200-250 and it makes a perfect Fathers Day present
