Does anyone know why a win xp security update will not install and how to remove it to download it again? The latest patch was downloaded and it tries to install but all I get is a "Failed" message. I'm not sure where to find these applications on the computer. I think it is in the registry, but that's a gray area to me and I know you can really screw things up by monkeying around with the reg if you don't know what you are doing. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Bill

MSgt, which update is it? You can google that one to see what the fix is. Also, you can temporarily turn off windows updates until you see what the issue is. Sometimes these updates won't install because the are previous updates needed first. Is this sp3?.

Here is what I get after it tries to install:

Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 Security Update for Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, and Windows Server 2008 R2 (KB953297)

I have SP3 installed. I will try turning off the auto download and see if I can re-download it manually.

Thanks,

Thanks Bionic for your suggestions. I was able to correct the problem. I found out that when you go to the Windows Update page you can review all of the recent downloads. If one fails it shows a red X, which you can click on to find out the error code. Then you search Microsoft's web page for that code and follow the instructions provided. It was rather a long process, but it appears to be all set now.

Thank you again,
Bill
