If you could wait another month or so, Intel is coming out with a new Ive chip which is supposed to be faster but priced the same as Sandy Bridge.
Even if you don't want a new chip, wait anyway, it will drive prices down on a Sandy Bridge.

Salaga is has point about waiting, new Ivy Bridge chips will be out sometime in the 2nd quarter of 2012, it could drive the prices of the Sandy Bridge down but don't think there are going to be leaps and bounds of performance gains though, probably the biggest shine will be the more efficient power usage which will be good for laptops.
I would suggest using going with 8 or 16Gigs (you typed 6) of 1600Mhz DDR3 Corsair Vengeance memory(I run 16G and it is blue to match my mobo). It is rated @ 1600M @ 1.5volts and really stable, just select the 1600 XMP profile from in the EFI bios and your good to go(Your ASUS board will probably default to 1333Mhz). The only difference and what to keep in mind with the memory, the "LP" version has a shorter heatsink which could give you room for a bigger CPU cooler(if you plan on using one).
I used a Dyantron K987 cooler(on an i7 2600K) with Artic MX-3 heat sink compound, and it stays under 60c even under full load with Prime95 (http://files.extremeoverclocking.com/file.php?f=205). Just be sure to bed in the compound(burns in the CPU at the same time), run Prime95 for 5 min, then 10 min, then 30min, then 1hr, then 4hrs, then burn in at least 12-24 hrs, give the processor about 10-15 mins to cool between each pull.
The Z68 chipset supports SSD caching, so you may want to consider adding a SSD to your shopping list. I run a 600G Raptor(only have a P68 chipset) and have thought of swapping the mobo to a Z68 for the SSD caching but the Raptor loads everything lightning quick, computer loads in 15sec from a cold boot.

I just rebuilt my PC in new case, the heat of old case had fried my hard drive.
If you are looking for a case, this is what I got, sweet stuff - lots of space, cable management and airflow
http://www.corsair.com/carbide-series-500r-mid-tower-case.html
and power supply:

and cpu cooler:

And if you are on the market for a hard drive, this is what I got, it will blow you away:

Don't know what kind of budget your looking for in a new rig but with the new intel LGA 2011 processors, the 6 cores(which are HyperThreaded doubling the core count) and the integrated 4 channel memory controller. You essentially have a computer with two 6 core(including the HT) CPUs..it is rumored that intel is going to release an 8 core (with HT) CPU ...WOW two computers in one!
