Just a quick one, on a regular basis when downloading new maps as the screen shows... server downloading new map...with a picture, the screen locks up and the only way out even after trying ctrl alt & delete (its behind the picture but cant be seen) is to just turn the pc off. Any ideas from you whiz kids and whiz oldies :icon_wink:

This only happens when the map changes when you have a download happening.

I think it would be good to force download all files before connecting rather than per map basis.

People are used to this anyway and it will stop this from happening.

Has happened to me twice today already - For some weird reason last couple of days i have only been getting 6k download :(

Same here Mike. This site is also slow to respond for me and I've got a 20mb broadband connection :icon_frown:

I think it may be the server as it only seems to effect this clan :(

I have checked the server and also the download server and they are running correctly. Anyone that is having high pings or problems downloading maps I would recommend pinging the servers and see at which HOP in the route the slow down is happening.

Game Server 64.27.1.144

Download Server 74.53.107.50

Thanks for your help David.
Here's a screenshot of my ping rates:

It just seems odd that this forum is also slow for me as well as the downloads :icon_frown:

It's an old program (not supported anymore) called NEOTRACE.

If you are interested in it, PM me an XFIRE, Yahoo, or AIM user name.

We can connect and I can transfer a copy.

Edit: And, the only stupid question is the one not asked!

How do I force download? Mike,
And I did ask but no-one replied, how do I ping the server as David suggested?

Don't knoow about the 'force download', but I can help with the ping thing ;)

Open up a command prompt window. Click start>all programmes>accessories> and scroll down to 'command prompt. Double click this icon and it will open up another window.

In this window, type 'ping [IP address]' and press enter.

It will look like this:

Although this is a complete ping result from yesterday ;)

The big space between the c:/ and the 1st > I made to hide my drive paths. All you have to do is type 'ping' affter the >

OK?

I did the ping thing....Now what does it all mean :5duh:

Yourself

ummmm.....

What were the results? Did you take a screenshot?

Or, did you write down the ping times of the final (last) hop (address)?

I now forget......was this before or after the new server location?

Basically, what this tells you is the ping time (latency) from you to the server - the longer the ping time, the slower the response, and the more chance for dropped packets - dropped packets results in packets being resent slowing everything down, or the connection being dropped.

Anyway, this is just an indicator, or a step taken to try and diagnose your map download issue.
