I'm a very happy boy, my 2GB memory and Radeon X1950Pro arrived this morning and they're all up and running....
Quickly popped in COD2 single player to see the difference and.....my lord, it's incredible!!! A good high resolution with all the bells and whisles turned on..!! YAY!!
I have one issue though, similar to Mac & Cheese, with the same BSOD error.
Driver that came with the graphics card was 7.4 (Apr 2007). Once installed I got on their website, downloaded the latest (7.9) and installed. All went a bit Pete Tong, and as it reset got the BSOD - error with ati2dvag. Can't be the card as works fine with previous driver (7.4). I've tried getting it from two different sources and same problem.
I know a few of you our there have the same card - what version are you running. Anyone else got any ideas as to why?
Thanks for all your help people, now I really can't wait for COD4....lol

something to try (in the meantime)... boot your computer in safemode w/networking capabilities.
It should boot using the VGA - not your card driver.
uninstall the card driver
install the old driver
reboot.
See if that takes away the issue - then you can be sure it is the new driver.
If not - then there is something else whacky going on

Did exactly that and it works just fine - something funny with the latest driver.... Oh well works just fine so I'll leave it for a while and try a later one.

Yes mate the advise was great and made life just that little bit easier...
'Ts the first time I've upgraded any of my computers and wasn't bad at all....am even tempted to build my own from scratch when I get around to it and have the cash!

I have a Radeon X1600 512meg PCIe and use version 8.401.0.0 of the ATI driver.
I am assumng yours is a PCIe as well not AGP? Also assuming it is an ATI card not someone else using the radeon processor...
Are you usng the Catalyst Control center?
IF so are you using the ATI Overdrive feature, if you are just drop the VPU and Memory clocks down 1 notch and see if that helps.

Here the best way to install drivers for ATi cards uninstall the previous drivers and reboot computer they install the new drivers. I think on the Ati web site they give instructions on how to update drivers. Also make sure you have any virus program turn off it can corrupt the driver installation sometimes
Removing Old ATI Software
Click on Start, then Control Panel, then go to Add/Remove Programs.
At the top of the list you should see several ATI entries. Select the entry entitled ATI Software Uninstall Utility, and click Change/Remove.
You will be prompted to restart your system once the uninstall is complete.
Once restarted, check the Add/Remove Programs list again for any remaining ATI software.
If any ATI software is still listed, click Change/Remove on those entries to uninstall each one individually.
Next, please scroll through the list until you find an entry called DAO (see screenshot below).
Select DAO, then Click Change/Remove to uninstall this program.
