Hey guys..
I have recently been tuning in to Team Speak and it sounds like a lot of fun.. problem is I only have a set of headphones.
I am going to buy a decent gaming headset and was wondering if u guys can recommend anything?
Currently, the headphones I am using are AKG K701 - 2 years ago they cost me US$750. I am looking for a complete headset of similar caliber??? I don't want anything cheap and nasty, I want the headset to be of high end quality, as i don't mind spending money on something that will last a long time
I would appreciate any advice you guys have as u are all much more experienced gamers than me.

I use a Plantronics Plantronics GameCom Pro They do not cost $750
I think I payed around $50 they are real good headset. Several people in the ToB use them see link below. My hearing is not to good anymore do to working Helicopters for 35 years. I sure some other Tob's may have better headsets.

I have also heard good things about the Sennheisers (is that spelled correctly?).
I have never worked with any of the surround headphones, and I don't know if any of them are headsets, but I do know that some people really like the surround abilities, as it is beneficial on R & G servers.
Other people can't stand headset surround sound.
In my case, I still have teenagers and their friends around, so headsets and headphones don't last that long around here due to people rolling chairs over the wires (no matter how many times I yell).
So, I go for headphones/headsets in the $10-$20 range.
Please post back here as you decide on a set.
Hey...a thought.....don't inexpensive webcams have built-in microphones with noise cancelling technology?
Could you add a webcam, use the microphone part, and still use your excellent headphones?
I think it would suck to lose the use of high-quality headphones in that situation.

No Dave sadly you can't use webcam mic with nice headphones, sorry to dissapoint you :( . But I do reccommend Razer Barracuda HP-1 Gaming Headset. It is a little on the expensive side (got mine for like $80), but I got it for Christmas and I love them. The surround sound is really good, it helps you find shooters more easily in R&G server. They are very comfortable on your head for painless gaming (unless you get shot in the face alot :P) You can fully control all the aspects of your headset (volume, bass, etc). Also, it glows:sheep: You can check it out at http://www.razerzone.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2_16&products_id=38

For both setting me straight, and for the info regarding the Barracuda headset.
That looks pretty sweet!

The thing I like about surround sound, Dave, is that you can hear where footsteps are in relationship to your location. Very helpful!!!

Yep i agree. I could never go away from my 5:1 surround sound system.
Sometimes i think there is someone in the house when i am on members only and acer sneaks up behind me lol

I'm always feeling like someone is creeping up behind me and going to mele me, even when NOT playing COD... LMAO!
So far, Acer, Fly and Tom haven't sneaked up behind me at work, on the train or at home. Maybe I should change my address since I posted it for the holiday card exchange??? :3some:

I researched headsets extensively and it came down to two different ones.
Handsdown, the medusa headseat has the best reviews. Only problem, you had to order them from Europe! Not anymore!
Medusa-USA (http://www.medusa-usa.com/medusa-51-progamer-edition-v2-p-896.html?osCsid=a2a0e24f3df2ea4dd3a8ddca4e8a4b6a)
The other choice for me was the Turtle Beach HPA2.
HPA2 (http://www.turtlebeach.com/products/efhpa2/home.aspx)
Those were the ones that I went with, simply because my local Fry's had them in stock, and i didnt want to wait on a headset from Europe. Both are pretty expensive, coming in at around 100 bucks, but thats the price you pay to have surround sound headsets.
You can actually find the HPA2's cheaper online since more than one vender stocks them!
Now, if you dont care about the surround sound setup, there are many really nice stereo sets, that are more affordable.
My two pennies...

I would really like that. Those are the ones I really wanted. Also, having a good sound card is important. I still use the onboard sound, and sometimes I can hear some buzzing at low volumes...
I guess I need to research some sound cards now!

Well... I was wondering if you got the headset and what you thought about it?
I like mine, except after a couple of hours, it starts to hurt my head a bit. Crunches my brain so to speak...
I ended up buying a new sound card also. Hopefully it will be here today! With any luck, I will get it installed and see if it actually makes any difference at all!
Here is the sound card I ended up going with.
