Match Ideas

Would like for input as to what type of matches you would like for us to try and host...as in how they are setup, number of maps, time played, etc. Just any idea you have throw it out here and let us look at it.

well man. first 3 hrs is a lil long for me to play i had a big time but my wife was having a heck of a time keeping the kids at bay. lol i did like the way it was set up except for the map D/L thing but yall got that figured out.

I had the same problem 3 hours is a long time when your wife is giving the daggers look (you all know what i mean).
And i have 4 kids all going bananas behind me :5lol:
But it was one of the best matches and it is only once a month, so her in doors suffers, it just!!!
I did like playing older maps not in rotating anymore, maybe and old skool night might be an idea.

i think the time and date should be a set thing- so no one gets confused-:confused: about when is it:confused: what time is it:confused: --for instance ---12:00 eastern time----first saturday of the month --i know its pretty much like that now ,use 30:00 min maps ---only three maps so you dont have a draw,set the maps you are going to use on the download screen,and let everyone know a few days ahead of time if not in rotation :)

the download of maps is somthing we will do before but we wanted a suprise and well you all got one lol.

I think that the 3hr playing was a great idea with the mix of people online.

I have consulted fester about some older maps coming back in and it may be somthing we will look at for a match in the coming months.

I also agree with the vote on a map, and a set time and date if it is doable!!! Another thing, maybe like a sudden death where if you get killed, maybe have a set time to re-spawn like 2-3 minutes or so... and when you are dead have a black screen so you cant cheat. Is it even possable to set a MOD up that way????

You can change the amount of time you are under spawn protection and disable the rifle while you are under spawn protection.

The longer spawn period is a good idea but 2-3 min is a bit long a lot of people get killed in that amount of time and part of the fun is a lot of people on the maps. Also have to agree on the three hours as pretty long how about 2 hours. Finally if possible use mirrormaps so you don't have to play the twice from each side.

Have to agree with most of the ideas. 3 hours is a bit long. 3-40 min maps, with a mix of old and new might work. Against 2-3 min respawn. The way I get killed, will only be able to play about 5 min each map LOL.

How about 3 ea. 45 minute maps or 5 ea. 30 minute maps (odd # prevents tie games)? 2 to 2.5 hours total match time. I like the idea of mixing TOB members with regulars. As for map selection, a good mix of new and old would create some parity. Lots of folks have "spots" on the old maps. The newer maps allow for newer players to have some chance to score. I also liked the mix of long range maps with close-up ones.

In a nutshell, any way to let a sniper demonstrate overall skill (no matter map age or type) in a timely manner would be great!

Here's another thought. Select maps to be used weeks in advance. Then take them out of rotation until the match.

I really like the idea of mixed matches and an odd number of rounds on mirror maps to prevent ties. This last match was basically that (Bitterwoods isn't a mirror map; and my happy spot was on the other side :( ), and I had tons of fun.

The shorter the match, the better for me...I get bored easily, I guess! :) I could handle doing a map twice for 30 minutes than I could for one solid hours. I kind of liked the TOB vs Regs (even thought I was on the Dream Team last match). I also agree with the odd numbered matches to prevent ties.

May sound a little OTA for some people as not all will have access to paypal or somthing like that.

What about we set up a match where you pay $5 to enter and the highest score wins the dough at the end of the match ? we play 1 map for 1hour and hold this every month alongside the normal matches ??? we can do it so that normal matches are every 4weeks and likewise with this type of match. If we don't get a huge amount of people wanting in we could do it on our test server so that the people who still want to play can do so on the main server.

This new match can be done also every 4weeks and it will be 2weeks after the normal match so we would have a prize fight then 2weeks later we can have a normal match then 2weeks after another prize fight then 2weeks after the normal match again etc. etc.

What do you think ?

I dont think the spawn idea is a good thing it would make me go mad having to wait to get my revenge on someone and maybe for some ppl paying abit of money to play the match sucks abit if ppl just want to have fun.

People who want to play normal matches can do so in the monthly match.

People who want to pay the $5 and have a chance to win some money can do in the other matches.

It probably wouldn't be something I'd participate in (can't go risking my already scarce cash on my sucky skills), but it sounds like a good idea.

That sounds fun and if you can't get to one of the matches you won't have to wait long for another one to come around. If I paid to get in then i would have a good feeling to know someone took my money and my life...over and over and over and over...you get the idea.

Some more ideas to throw around. Over 40 vs. under 40 (or any age), Veterans vs. Non-Veterans. Married vs. Single, just a few ideas.

The idea of odd numbered map sound solid. but don't rerun maps just throw in a mix.

is it possible to set up a tag/ dodgeball type of game.
one person is "it" and one side of the map, once your killed by the "tager" you then transfer to their side. and the same holds true for the other side.
game ends when one side has the most players or all of them.
this would need to be done on a slightly open map where you cant hide out.

as for any type of tourny i can only get on every so often, sometimes only a few hrs at a time. If I can swing it Id love to join in.

mike im in on that. free match two weeks later pay match wooohooo. map should be stated at time of payment, if you dont like the map you dont pay/play. maps in free match should be can be voted on but the results kept secret untill game day.

I have not as of yet participated in a match. My PC gave up the ghost prior to the December match. We used to run similar tourneys in SOF and we would run 2 different scoring systems at the same time, then at the end combine the numbers to come up with individual and combined winners.
The game type was set up as TDM, with a high score winner, then also a percentage of kills to deaths ratio winner. So 1 team could win in total kills but lose in kill / death ratio.
Some of the players who frequent your server are more interested in a high score, while others are trying to focus on the ratio of kills to deaths. It did make for some work at the end, but it sort of provided an incentive for both player types.
Just the 2 cents of someone who wishes he was involved but has yet to get the chance.

Just a thought! Would it be possible to setup a td game where, when an individual is killed he/she gets auto swapped to other team. At the end of the game the team with the most players/points is the winner. If one teams has more players and the other has more points its a draw. :confused:

You can compete in both but only keep your best score for one eight hour session (if compiling the stats is easy enough). This way more people can compete do to the time differences. And if you can't make both you can at least make one or the other. I'm thinking total kills format, keeps everybody moving.

If this sounds crazy, it must be the beer talking at one in the morning....

I love the idea of playing another server/clan. We could have a map we pick and a map they pick.

Another idea: how about top 10 vs the rest. We could take the top 10 players (using either score or skill) from the previous month and have them compete against the rest. I think score or skill is a better measure than kills or ratio..just my thoughts.

That gives incentive during the month to try for the head shots, the lower power scope and so on.
