Working in the Operating Room and seeing what smoking does to you on the inside, I hope you guys have good success with stopping. It really can kill you in the worst ways. Good luck. As for me, getting off that last 20 pounds and spending a few more hours a week trying not to be that easy kill on the server. Spending some more time (quality time with the wife and kids) and improving my scroll sawing. In fact hope to have the ToB logo designed and cut out soon for all to see.

Wow, I'm gonna' try and quit smoking as well. Me and a couple of friends are going to do it together, so it'll be a bit easier than by myself.

Does anyone here that has quit in the past have any tips for us hopefuls?

Hey all,
Like most of you, I "have" quit smoking... My last fag was on Friday 22nd Dec. I also joined a gym yesterday to keep me out of the boozer at lunchtimes as I have put on at least a stone this year just because of the 2 pints at lunchtimes... Good luck to us all in keeping them up !

Alex

ps Gogs, that still allows me 18 pints in the evenings :5lol:

Theco (et al) ... I started chewing to help me quit smoking 25 years ago. I had gotten pneumoniua 2 times in a year and couldn't breathe. After 2o plus years of chewing, and a couple dozen earnest attempts to quit, I gave up to the fact that it is in fact an addiction. Not something you can simply overcome b/c one day you woke up and decided to quit.
You have to understand why you should quit ... be that to save money or to save your life ... and you have top WANT to quit. And if you have both an undestanding of why to quit and the honest desire to quit, you still need some help from above!
I quit after 25 years, but not until I realized that I couldn't do it on my own. I have gone 11 months now without even a desire to take a dip. :)

Okay here goes my wish list for my New Year's Resolution. First off i'm with everyone else, I want to quite smoking. I have many reasons for it like I love my family dearly and i want to be around as long as i can to be with them and watch them grow. Number two of the res. is i want to actually gain weight instead of lose it. I'm underweight to the point where it sickens myself to look at my image in the mirror. So therefore i'm going to go back on my protein drinks and try to gain 20 lbs and keep it there. Sounds easy but i know otherwise. And for the last but not least i want this year to be a better one than last. I want mine and my husbands relationship to be always filled with joy and excitment for each other and not yelling for a divorce every other day. Well, peeps, that's my New Year's resolution, wish me luck....because I know i'll need it.

I tend to agree with Mike,

(Lovebug, hope everything you wish for works out.)

I would love to give up smoking, at over $10 Aus a pack it gets a bit expensive.........seems something always pops up that creates stress that leads to another smoke...lol

I intend to make a serious effort towards allowing myself a bit more "I" time.
Get out and ride my Harley (which in 18mnths has about 2000km on the clock)

Play a few more maps and improve my shooting and spend some quality time with my fiance and my son (who lives with his mother) sounds like a contradiction doesn't it?

I also intend to make my fiance my wife around Easter.......so look out for invitations.

Hope everybody has a great year.

Cheers
Brett

"Fag, "Boozer" and "stone" are all words used by Iza in his resolution in a positive way. Ya wouldn't hear any of those in the same sentence here in the US unless it was "I'm gonna give up my old lady because she called me a fag and a boozer. If I don't leave I'm gonna stone her". Something like that.

Going with AF-Vet (I think it was), having seen the inside of many people at autopsies, the smoking is a good thing to quit. You can actually smell the smoke and tar when ya open them up.

Good luck this year everyone on the resolutions. Mine is to drop a stone or two (not sure how much that is).

Here's to 2007!

I resolve to not sweat the small stuff. When God wants me, He will take me. Two packs a day or twenty, it doesn't matter. I personally don't set any particular day to make a conscientious decision to be a better person or to live my life a certain way. It seems like a very good oppurtunity for a letdown. I don't know one single person that has ever kept a New Year's Resolution. Do any of you?

(Maybe my resolution should be to try and be less of a cynical b@$+@rd, huh?)

I hope everyone succeeds, though.......really

Dunno man, sometimes the New Year is just the incentive you need. I'm almost at two days without a smoke (the longest I've gone in awhile), and I think I'm gonna be able to make it this time.

How's everyone elses' coming along?

i am not doing so well ,stress this week at work is at its top level ,and home is also to the roof ,i am averaging 2 or 3 smokes a day the last couple of days ,i guess thats better than a whole pack ,i think i need a vacation

Theco

Yeah, cutting down is better than nothing. I basically hid in my room for the first few days after New Year's, away from anything stressful. Once the urge to run to the nearest living thing and kill it went away (last night), I actually went out with my friends and still didn't smoke. I think I may have finally quit!

And yes, I would have waited another month if I had a whole bunch of duty-frees lying around too :)

Not had a fag now since the 22nd of Dec. Was on 10ish a day. Also joined a gym, which has really helped with beating the cravings... Had a sneaky cigar on New Years Eve, but that dont count :5lol: Not using any patches or gum, just good old willpower!

Keep it up guys!

Maybe some of us non-smokers should keep checking on you guys. THE BOSS and Ray should be a support group for each other. but if I get my TS back up and running I will be checking on you guys, McNab, Goggsy, and Theco. cutting back is better than nothing. Good luck and It is a daily battle (or war) to stop any addiction, I know.

Thanks for the concern, Danny! I'm still smoke free, nine days and counting. The cravings are almost entirely gone, and the mental habit is slowly fading away.

Well, i'm not doing as good as everyone else. I don't even know where to start on how to quite smoking. When do you quite? As soon as i get up in the morning i want a cigg. and as soon as i'm done eating i want a cigg. It's really hard to try to walk away and not pick one up when the craving hits. What am i doing wrong and what do i need to do to make it work?

When I gave up I used sweets like lolly pops

Good luck to all. keeping a resolution is a hard thing to do, especally when its become a secondary reflex.

For me I started running, I wanted to at least be able to do a mile or two without needing an iron lung before i went into boot camp, and after not being able to have a cig for all of basic I managed to never go back to it.
however I seemed to have transfered the addiction to butterscotch hard candies ( Brocks is the only way to go!) The wife finds wrappers everywhere but its better than the alternative.

my New years resulotion is to try and keep in better touch with my friends that I dont see frequently anymore (thoes still in the Army and out of state).
So far im doing good, sent the letters and made the calls. just need to make time to visit and keep it up.

Best of luck to you guys WhipLash and LoveBug. It does take work and communication. I have only been married 21 years and have had a handful of rough times. remember it is not a 50/50 thing you have to give more than you expect back. I try the 70/30 rule...give 70% and expect 30% back, that way I am not let down to much cause she will always try to do more. Talk and spend time together away from the distractions, and if you have an argument get on line and shoot each other for a while. also try reading "The Five Love Languages" it helped Trixie and I. Good luck guys.
