:icon_wink: Chris, my 9200 works great. Dave (Yourself) will probably have a good answer for you, though, so don't do anything rash until he has a chance to give you the lowdown

yea it says that will work and do u just keep ur moniter plugged into the CPU or into the new outlet on the video card.. once i find a Radeon that has that number i want to get it just havent found one yet

um' dude you have to use the outlet on the new card or you will be using onboard video.

shadowstalker

ye ai tried that on my other one but the screen went black.. so i thought if it was plugged into the motherboard it wouldnt matter, then again i am asking for questions so thanks for the help

ShadowStalker, from your posts, it's not clear what video card you need.

You said:

my slots are PCI

And you also mentioned that you added an X1300, but you didn't mention having to remove another card.

I got the impression that the existing video is onboard.

The X1300 card comes in two interface flavors, both AGP and PCI-e.

Video cards actually come/came in 4 major flavors: ISA (obsolete - early to late 1980's), PCI (still used, but very rarely - late 80's to early 90's), AGP (extremely common, but hard to buy anymore - mid '90s onward) and PCI-e (new standard, came out in 2004).

PCI-e stands for PCI-express, which is an upgrade of the older PCI bus.

The X1300 should be enough to run COD2, but with reduced graphics settings.

Not sure what went wrong.

Do you know what kind of onboard video your mom's machine has? Intel? NVIDIA? ATI?

Most likely Intel.

On some machines, if you add a video card, you need to change a BIOS setting to let it know which card to use. Most machines will sense it automatically, but not all.

When you added the card, did you get any video at all through the new video card?

You said that the screen was black when you switched back to the old port - from that I assume the new card actually worked (assuming you were connected to the new card).

If you actually had video, then what was it that didn't work?

COD2 itself?

Did you load the video drivers that came on the CD?

Did you uninstall the previous drivers? With some systems, onboard video uses default drivers, so there may not be drivers to uninstall.

Can you offer some further information?

Just about any video card you add will be able to run COD2...however, I'd stay away from the NVIDIA FX5200 series (in NVIDIA, don't go below the FX5700). There were some serious Direct X issues with those cards.

If you didn't have video, it could be from a bad card, incorrect card installation, loose (or unconnected) cable, unsupported monitor resolution/refresh rate, or a host of other issues.

I've seen people unplug everything, install a new video card, hook everything back up, and forget to plug in the monitor.

Did the machine just beep at you when you turned it on?

Does the machine meet the other minimum game specs?

How much memory? What kind of CPU? How much available disk space?

I look forward to others problems just so I can read your responses.

Cheers
